MAQUINA. – misfit

Lisbon’s MAQUINA. released “misfit” today, the lead single from their upcoming album, dropping October 31st through Fuzz Club Records. The limited 12″ comes with a fold-out film poster and includes a club remix from Parisian duo Leroy se Meurt on the B-side.

The trio recorded “misfit” in December 2023 in Porto with João Valente and themselves producing. They got the invite to track something right after finishing their second album PRATA, with no prepared material. Boy Harsher’s work on “The Runner” and “My Animal” propelled them toward the horror soundtrack aesthetic they ultimately adopted.

The track grinds slowly for nearly nine minutes, mixing floor-shaking EBM with industrial krautrock repetition. Rui Rebelo handled the mix, Hugo Valverde mastered it. Halison wrote the lyrics, which follow the thoughts of a stalker or perhaps a person with paranoid tendencies. The band describes it as raw and scuzzy, built for loud playback.

Since PRATA in 2023, MAQUINA. reissued their debut DIRTY TRACKS FOR CLUBBING on vinyl and hit festivals across Europe and the UK. They played Primavera Porto, Eurosonic, Roadburn, Trans Musicales, Leffingeleuren, Into The Great Wide Open, Sonic Blast, and Grauzone among others.
